The interesting thing for me was because Rose was my friend, I asked her to make me a series of bowl, which she did. I don't remember seeing that bowl but if I did I rejected it. Not to say there is anything wrong but I would not have liked that shape.
Bowls are particularly rare and I asked her to make them with a base that they seemed to float when viewed. It's an honor that an artist would do that for you.
Bowls as oppose to closed feelies are a different spiritual kind of piece. Where a closed feelie seems to contain a spirit bowls are for the offerings to the gods. I kept many of them and it is hard for me to part with them as each one is special. When Rose made bowls she liked to use two different glazes. One on the inside and one on the outside.
It to me made it like a geode where you don't know whats inside. Of course in the world of bowls you get to see both. The inside of this like a center to a volcanic crater with many waterfall that flow , dried crystalize area at the bottom, and where the area seems worn away by erosion to reveal the layer below.Of course this is my imagination. The outside in one of Rose's greatest and most vivid glazes, her Emerald/Cobalt glaze.
Bowl rims are often given to some minor flakes and this has a few. This extraordinary bowl measures 6 1/3 inches across by 1 5/8 inches high. There are few things in life where the physical transcends ones imagination beyond language. I have priced it a little less because of the minor flakes on the rim.
If you see one disappear that is the reason. My advice is if you get to see it don't wait too long or it might be gone.
