C e l es ti a l N o n e s u ch. Rich rose pink, ruby, or'Yanzhi' enamel outside, in contrast to the white interior. This piece is EXTREMELY finely potted.
With a fine flaring rim and slight tapering foot, this piece is extremely beautiful and elegant. A fine texture to the porcelain foot.
The low-fired enamel glaze known as rose du Barry in the West was successfully adopted during late Kangxi period, and was used frequently during the Yongzheng through Qianlong period. The resulting color may range from carmine to pale lilac. The rose glaze was blown on to the exterior, and the interior was either glazed white or painted with overglaze enamel decoration. Because of the high cost of the enamel containing gold, forms were limited to small cups, bowls, and dishes. All were thinly potted using refined clay.
A vase in the Beigjing Palace Museum is a rare example of a larger vessel with rose-red glaze (Geng 1993: pl112). Exact age is unknown, although this piece bears a very nicely hand painted Yongzheng six character mark, it may be an Apocryphal type mark, and the piece may date to the 19th or 20th century. A great object for study or display, this will make a nice addition to any student or appreciators collection of Chinese art and artifacts. Very good condition with no detectable repairs. Some minor imperfections in the glaze. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and weathering. As they are part of the description, please enlarge all photographs to better ascertain details and condition.
