This is truly a very rare bed ornament, an antique French bed canopy or ciel de lit, so said "à la polonaise" because the fashion came to France in the 17th century when the Polish aristocrate Marie Leszczynska became Queen of France by her marriage with Louis 15th in 1725 The wooden dome-shaped frame is beautifully covered with antique tapestry featuring wedding baskets filled with pink roses and ribbon bows, it it lined underneath with plain pink.
