RARE 1970'S BENEAGLES THE THISTLE & ROSE COMPLETE PORCELAIN CHESS SET NEW IN BOX. PIECES SHAPED AFTER HISTORICAL FIGURES FROM SCOTTISH AND ENGLISH HISTORY. "The Thistle and the Rose" chess set was Designed by Ann Whittet and modelled by Frederick Mellor of George Wade & Sons Ltd. One side in white, the opposing side in black, the English versus the Scots, the kings depicting Henry VIII and Robert the Bruce, the queens as Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, the bishops as Thomas a Beckett and John Knox, the knights as Sir Francis Drake and William Wallace, the rooks as a Norman-English tower and a Scottish tower-house, the pawns with ball finials, king 13.5cm, pawn 9.5cm.

This set originally contained a bottle of Scotch whisky from Peter Thomson (Perth) Ltd. The center carton is NOW EMPTY no bottle of Scotch. Comes with 16 extra replacement chessmen (8 on back row for each side King, Queen, Knights, Rooks, Bishops) in it's original individual boxes so a total of 48 (32 to play + 16 extra replacements).

Unused and is still in it's original packaging including chess board (stores on bottom) still wrapped in original plastic protector. Box has a few scuffs while being stored and moved. I inherited a large chess set collection and most were used for display in glass curio cabinets or stored.
