Ebel Paul Breguette 14k Rose Gold Rare Ships Wheel Wrist Watch

  
Founded by Eugene Blum as "Blum & Cie" in 1911, the Ebel Watch Company of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland has a proud history that still flourishes today. Its headquarters remain in La Chaux-de-Fonds at Villa Turque, a stunning building designed by famed Swiss architect Le Corbusier in 1916 and completed in 1917. Ebel is also known for being awarded the contract to produce Cartier watches in 1975, collaborating with Piquet in so doing.

Its case measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 31mm in width (32mm with original rose gold crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide including the crown.

It has been fully serviced by my watchmaker to ensure its original 17 jewel, Paul Breguette Swiss mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that's been restored to its correct status (re-enameled). It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied solid rose gold hour markers, mirror finish Roman numerals, original blue steel hands and a separate seconds dial with'sweep' blue steel seconds hand. Signed Paul Breguette below the XII. The low dome crystal is in mint shape. The two-piece case is crafted of 14 Karat Solid Rose [Pink] Gold and is in excellent PLUS order, nicer than photos show.

It reminds me of a Patek Philippe watch I once saw - also solid gold and around the same age. The original rose gold winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting. Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is pristine with no wear or engravings, past or present. Inside is its original manual wind mechanism, signed Paul Breguette Watch Co. Swiss - Seventeen 17 Jewels, Adjusted Two 2 Positions, PXT with serial number #19,917.

The inside case back is nicely engine turned and signed Croisier Swiss - 14K, 0.585, 1 - 6575 2 with Squirrel hallmark (Swiss 14kt) and key gold hallmark as well. Croisier was the case maker of this watch. This fully serviced, higher grade beauty winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 17mm'Consul' smooth black leather strap handmade by Fluco, Germany with matching ROSE gold buckle, an elegant companion to this elegant timepiece. Having collected vintage watches for over 30 years I can honestly tell you that this is a watch that you'll see now and probably won't see again - I doubt they made more than a hundred of this model and I bet there's less than 25 left in the world today.
