A beautiful authentic antique Nippon tea set with pot and lid, sugar and lid, and 2 cups and saucers. There is elaborate artwork in this set, we couldn't find anything like it in our 10 Nippon reference books. The exteriors of the pieces are pink. There are ornate cartouches of hand painted roses and other florals and they are outlined and connected by extensive moriage detailing. There are shiny gold embellishments in many areas.
The artwork on this is just marvelous. Please look closely at our photos. We check with a black light. We found no chips or hairlines, there are some missing beads/dots which we photographed and describe in detail below. Van Pattens ABCs of Nippon Porcelain, by Joan Van Patten, on page 238, has a description of moriage, which was piped on like cake icing. Most moriage pieces are unmarked. However, most of these pieces are marked with Japanese characters.
The teapot with lid is 4 1/2" high and 7 3/4" across at the handles. The sugar bowl with lid is 4" high and 6 1/4" handle to handle.

Saucer 1 has one dot missing. Saucer 2 has two missing pieces of moriage, one is a dot and the other the tip of a leaf or flourish.SIZE: cup 3 7/8" across the top, 2 1/4" high. If you are new to collecting Nippon porcelain, we suggest you become familiar with the genuine articles by web sites and books that are available through most libraries.
